In a world where every dish tells a story, Lisbon stands out as the Best Culinary Destination in Europe, according to the World Culinary Awards. This international recognition, celebrated during a ceremony in Dubai, places the Portuguese capital at the heart of the European culinary scene, surpassing renowned cities such as Barcelona, Copenhagen, Florence, London, Paris, and Vienna.

This award, part of the "sister" event to the World Travel Awards, is more than just a distinction: it is a recognition of a city that masterfully balances its gastronomic roots with modern creativity. Carlos Moedas, the Mayor of Lisbon, expressed his pride in seeing the city's culinary identity recognized globally: "It is a great honor to see Lisbon’s identity and traditions awarded for the first time in this sector, and how innovation blends with these gastronomic traditions."

Lisbon not only offers authentic flavors but also serves as a beacon for quality tourism, where gastronomy plays a central role. As Moedas highlighted, "the local economy is increasingly becoming a distinctive factor for Lisbon, and gastronomy contributes greatly to the quality of Lisbon's tourism."

This recognition extended beyond the capital. The city of Porto was honored as the Best Emerging Culinary Destination, showcasing the growth and relevance of Portuguese cuisine on the international stage. The award-winning restaurant Vila Joya, famous for its sophistication, was named the Best Fine-Dining Hotel Restaurant, while Belcanto, led by renowned chef José Avillez, was crowned the Best Portuguese Restaurant.

Now in its fifth edition, the World Culinary Awards celebrate global culinary excellence, promoting tourism and best practices in the industry. With categories ranging from restaurants and chefs to hotels and culinary experiences, the awards are determined by public vote, reflecting the appreciation of travelers and experts for destinations like Lisbon and Porto.

In today’s Lisbon, tradition and innovation meet at every corner, offering a culinary experience that goes beyond the simple act of eating—it is a true immersion into the stories and flavors that make Portugal unique in the world.
